29 CFR 1926.651(c)(2): A stairway, ladder, ramp or other safe means of egress was not located in trench excavations that were 4 feet (1.22m) or more in depth so as to require no more than 25 feet (7.62m) of lateral travel for employees: a) Northwest corner of site; On or about July 26, 2012 and at times prior thereto, an employee assisting with measuring the grade of a 4 foot deep excavation with nearly vertical walls for the installation of PVC waste water piping was not provided with a safe means of entering/exiting. The employee was observed jumping into and climbing up the excavated wall to get out of the excavation. Note: Abatement certification is NOT required for this item. |
